  • Measure every window, as they may have a slight variation that will affect your window furnishings from fitting perfectly.

How to Measure For Recess Mount - Z Frame (for fitting your shutter inside the window frame)

        A.     Measure the width in three places, Top, Centre and Bottom.
Measure from the inside opening edge of the recess to the opposite edge.
Use the smallest of the three measurements.

        B.     Measure the drop in three places, Left, Centre and Right.
Measure from the top of the opening of the inside recess to the bottom of the inside sill.
Use the smallest of the three measurements.

Important:
Make sure you have enough depth to mount the shutter inside the frame, to allow the louvres to rotate to the open position, you will require a minimum clearance of 52mm. Look out for any obstructions, such as window-winders or frame protrusions.

Recess Mount - using Z Frame - We recommend this type of mount if you have enough depth in the recess.
  • The frame type used for mounting the shutter inside the window frame is a Z Frame.  We use this type of frame to give you the best light coverage around the frame, eliminating the need for installing light stops.  It is also an easy frame to use for DIY measures/installs, as it has a tolerance for any measurements that are slightly out by a few millimetres or a frame that is out of square.
  • The Z Frame allows the shutter to be easily mounted inside the recess, with sufficient room for 89mm slats to rotate.  Minimum depth required for an 89mm shutter slat is 52mm.  Look out for any obstructions such as window-winders or frame protrusion.
  • The Z Frame is mounted directly to the inside of the window frame, with a 22mm bullnose lip going around the outside of the window frame or plaster.

How to Measure for Face Mount with an Architrave - L Frame

(For fitting your shutter to the timber architrave)

        A.     Measure the width in three places, Top, Centre and Bottom.
Measure from the outer edge of the architrave to the opposite edge.
Use the smallest of the three measurements.

        B.     Measure the drop in three places, Left, Centre and Right.
Measure from the top of the architrave, to the bottom of the architrave.
Use the smallest of the three measurements.

Important:
If you have a sill at the base of the window, measure to the top of the sill.  Your shutter will then be provided with a 3-sided frame to sit flush onto the top of the sill.

Provide your exact window measurements.  Do not make any deductions.

How to Measure for Face Mount without an Architrave - L Frame

(For fitting your shutter onto the plaster wall - square set plaster window)

        A.     Measure the width in three places, Top, Centre and Bottom.
Measure from the left hand opening edge of the plaster to the opposite edge.
Use the smallest of the three measurements.

Add 84mm total to the width measurement.
This allows the frame to go past the opening 42mm each side (make sure you
                have clearance).

        B.     Measure the drop in three places, Left, Centre and Right.
Measure from the top of the opening edge of the plaster, to the bottom opening edge.
Use the smallest of the three measurements.
If you require a four sided frame - Add 84mm to the total drop measurement.
This allows the frame to go above and below 42mm.

Important:
If you have a sill at the base of the window, measure to the top of the sill.  Your shutter will then be provided with a 3 sided frame to sit flush onto the top of the sill.  Add 42mm to the drop measurement, to allow for the frame at the top of the shutter only.

Provide your exact window measurements with required listed additions.  Do not make any deductions.

Face Mount on Architrave - using L Frame
Face Mount on to Plaster - using L Frame

We recommend this type of mount when there is not enough depth for a recess mount with a Z Frame

  • The frame type used for mounting the shutter is an 'L Frame' - 67mm x 42mm
  • The L Frame allows the shutter to be easily mounted to the architrave or plaster wall with sufficient room for 89mm slats to rotate.
  • The L Frame can be mounted directly over the architrave, flush with the outside edges or to the plaster, flush with the opening edge.
Moulded (shaped) Architraves - The L Frame has a base size of 42mm.  You will require a flat surface of at least 20mm on the outside edge of the architrave on which to mount the frame.

Windows with Odd Panel Sizes

When placing your order for shutters, we provide even panel sizes, divided by the amount of panels you select. If your window requires odd panel sizes, or you prefer to vertically match your window frames, you will be required to enter any singular panel details into our comments field at checkout, or email us with full details after placing your order at the website.

to centre point of mullion.

2.  Provide measurement from the inside left edge to the centre
point of the right mullion.

3.  Provide total width measurement from inside left side to
inside right side.

Make sure 1 + 2 = 3

Face Mount with Architrave

1.  Provide measurement from the left edge of the architrave to
the centre point of the first mullion.

2. Provide measurement from the centre point of left mullion to
centre point of right mullion.

3.  Provide total width measurement from outside edge of left
architrave to the opposite right hand edge.

 Central Dividing Rail

All drops that exceed 1800mm will require each panel of shutters to have a central dividing rail.  This is an option on drops under 1800mm.

The central dividing rail allows the shutter to operate the top and bottom independently.  It also gives the shutter more strength on longer drops.

When ordering your shutter, you will have the option of having a Central Dividing Rail Height, or a Customised Dividing Rail Height;

Central Dividing Rail - The factory will manufacture the shutter and place the dividing rail at the central height to the drop.  This will be approximate and may not be dead-centre, due to the equation of drop height x amount of slats.

Customised Dividing Rail - If you would like to cover your horizontal window frame mullion with a dividing rail, and have the shutter with less 'visual clutter', then we recommend that you enter the height you require for the dividing rail.  Measure from the bottom to the centre point of the mullion.  The dividing rail height may still vary slightly due to the equation of drop height x amount of slats.

Measuring Point for Customised Dividing Rail

Measure to the centre point of the horizontal mullion, from either the bottom of the architrave or the base of the recess, depending on the type of mount you require.

L Frame & Z Frame Templates

We make it even easier for you to measure and understand where your shutter frame will sit on your window. When ordering a sample pack for the colour selection, we include a Perspex Template of both the 'L Frame' and the 'Z Frame', so you can view the size and see how it will fit on your window or architrave, in your own home.

 Central Dividing Rail

All PVC Shutters over 1500 must have one dividing rail.

All PVC Shutters over 2100, must have two dividing rails (this is due to the weight of the blind)

The Centre Rail is an option on drops between 800-1500mm.

The central dividing rail allows the shutter to operate the top and bottom (and middle, in the case of two rails) independently.  It also gives the shutter more strength on longer drops.

All rails can be at customised heights, or if there's only one, you can opt for it to be centralised.

Central Dividing Rail - The factory will manufacture the shutter and place the dividing rail at the central height to the drop.  This will be approximate and may not be dead-centre, due to the equation of drop height x amount of slats.
